Peter Aberg

Partner & Co-Founder, Co-CIO - Credit

Peter Aberg co-founded Reverence Capital in June 2013 after spending 28 years at Goldman Sachs including 15 years as a Managing Director or Partner focused primarily on the bank, finance company and payments sectors. The vast majority of Mr. Aberg’s career was spent in the Securities Division, applying the asset-level cash flow analytics used in the asset-backed securities business to strategic advisory engagements and structured portfolio investments. He served as co-head of the Principal Finance Group and FICC Advisory Group in the Securities Division and as co-head of the Specialty Finance practice in the Financial Institutions Group in Investment Banking. He received a BA from Yale in 1981 and an MBA from Wharton in 1983. Mr. Aberg serves on the board of directors for CardWorks, Venerable Holdings (OpCo), Osaic (f/k/a Advisor Group), and Allspring Global Investments, and is an observer on the board of directors for EverBank (f/k/a TIAA Bank). He formerly served as an observer on the board of directors for Diamond Resorts and on the board of directors of Obra Capital (f/k/a Vida Capital).

Josh Swidler

Managing Director, Co-CIO - Credit

Josh Swidler joined Reverence Capital in 2024 and has over 30 years of finance, investing, and capital markets experience. Most recently, he was the Chief Investment Officer at Teamshares, a fintech investing platform, where he headed capital markets activities and facilitated the acquisition of over 80 businesses during his tenure. Prior to Teamshares, he spent 11 years at Elliott Associates. As a Senior Portfolio Manager in Elliott’s London office, he built and ran the European Structured Credit, Real Estate, and Non-Performing Loan businesses investing across CDS, bonds, loans, and direct investments in real estate and related platforms. In his later years at Elliott, he moved back to New York to lead the U.S. Private Financials business. A 14-year veteran of Lehman Brothers, he was a Managing Director in Structured Finance banking, in New York and then London, where he was the Head of Structured Products Origination focusing on various assets and platforms ranging from mortgages to student loans to credit cards. Mr. Swidler graduated from Harvard College, cum laude, with a degree in Social Studies.

steven herrup

Deputy CIO

Steven Herrup joined Reverence Capital in 2020 and has over 30 years of experience working in specialty finance. Prior to Reverence, he was at Varadero Capital since 2015. At Varadero, he was responsible for expanding the firm’s investments in non-securitized products. Prior to Varadero, Mr. Herrup spent 11 years at Goldman Sachs in the Special Situations Group, where he was a Managing Director, Co-Global Head of Structured Investing and was a member of the Investment Committee within the Special Situations Group. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he ran Structured Capital Markets at Zurich Capital Markets. He began his career at Deutsche Bank/Bankers Trust, where he held various positions in Treasury, Capital Markets and Trading from 1993 to 2001. Mr. Herrup received a B.S. in Finance, cum laude from Northeastern University in 1993.

Claudio Phillips

Head of Corporate Credit

Claudio Phillips joined Reverence Capital in 2022 and has over 39 years of trading / investing and asset management experience in the credit / debt markets. From 2011 to 2022, prior to joining Reverence, Claudio was the Managing Principal of MB Global Partners, a New York-based asset management firm investing in credit and special situations markets. Before joining MB Global Partners, Mr. Phillips was a Managing Director at The Commonfund from 2006 to 2011, where he was the head of their dedicated distressed funds which accounted for approximately $920 million in assets under management. Mr. Phillips has held various leadership positions including as a Managing Director at Citigroup/Salomon Smith Barney where he was in charge of all non-European Global Performing Loan (including emerging markets) trading.

Claudio is currently on the Board of Directors of the New America Alliance. He has also been a past President of the Westchester Hispanic Coalition and an appointee to the Westchester County Hispanic Advisory Board. Mr. Phillips was named one of the Top Leaders in Finance by Latino Leaders Magazine in 2015. He graduated with an A.B. in Government from Harvard University.

Ying Wang

Senior Vice President, Head of Research

Ying Wang joined Reverence Capital in 2020 and has 13 years of experience in the financial markets. Prior to Reverence, she was a Managing Director and Head of Research at CircleUp, where she led the research and investing framework of CircleUp's Systematic Fund. Previously, she was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager in the Global Asset Allocation Group at AQR Capital Management from 2016 to 2018, where she managed systematic macro Equity and FX strategies in AQR's 3-Alpha funds with $28 billion in AUM. Prior to AQR, she was a Vice President and Senior Quantitative Researcher at Goldman Sachs in the Special Situations Group and the Quantitative Investment Strategies Group for 6 years. She started her career at Bloomberg where she was a Financial Application Engineer in the R&D Group. Ms. Wang received a B.S. in Physics from Peking University in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University in 2009.

Theodore Samets

Senior Vice President, Director of Sourcing

Theodore Samets joined Reverence Capital in 2020 and has over 8 years of experience in the financing and real estate markets. Prior to Reverence, he was at Goldman Sachs since 2017, where he was a Vice President in the Real Estate Financing Group and responsible for sourcing, structuring, and underwriting opportunities for the Goldman Sachs Investment Portfolio. In this role, Mr. Samets supervised restructurings and workouts and was involved in the distribution of commercial mortgage-backed securities and mortgage and mezzanine loans to public and private investors. He also maintained relationships with banks, life insurance companies, pension funds, debt funds, and other real estate debt investors. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he practiced law at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Mr. Samets received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Raj Iyengar

Senior Vice President

Raj Iyengar joined Reverence Capital in 2022 and has been in private credit investing, securitized products, and fixed income & commodities for more than 17 years. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President at Limit Financial Inc, a credit insurance MGA. Before that, Raj was a Principal at Flexpoint Ford, where he deployed various credit investments out of the Special Assets Fund over several years. Additionally, Raj was Head of Quantitative Strategies at PeerIQ, which was successfully sold to Cross River Bank in 2021. Raj also spent several years at Morgan Stanley as a Trading Desk Strategist within Securitized Credit and a Corporate Credit Strategist. Raj holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Studies from Macquarie University, a Master of Financial Engineering from UCLA, and is an Actuary of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Beau Fenske

Vice President, Head of Asset Management and Commercial Real Estate Underwriting

Beau Fenske joined Reverence Capital in 2020 and has over 28 years of underwriting, structuring, and loan management experience with commercial and consumer loans. Prior to Reverence, he was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs for 22 years where he most recently served as Head of Asset Management, supporting both the Securities and Investment Banking divisions. While in this role, Mr. Fenske created and developed the infrastructure, processes, and reporting regimen to manage the growth and credit quality of a portfolio of over $10 billion of commercial, residential, and consumer loans. He also served as a cross-divisional liaison between Capital Markets, Credit, Legal, Compliance, Technology, and Operations teams. Prior to this role, Mr. Fenske served Goldman Sachs for over 15 years originating, underwriting, structuring, and managing commercial real estate loans for the Investment Banking division’s CMBS conduit and balance sheet lending businesses. Stabilized and value-add CRE loans of up to $250 million were secured by major property types in all geographic areas of the U.S. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Fenske launched his career at Norwest Bank as a business banking relationship manager to small and middle-market companies in the Dallas area from 1995 to 1998. Mr. Fenske received a BBA in Finance from Baylor University in 1994 and an MBA from Texas Christian University in 1998.

Alex Cheng

Associate

Alex Cheng joined Reverence Capital in 2023. Prior to Reverence, Mr. Cheng worked at Guggenheim Partners as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Structured Products Originations group and at Bank of America as an equity derivatives trader. Mr. Cheng graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a BSE in Operations Research and Financial Engineering and certificates in Finance, Statistics & Machine Learning, Applications in Computing, and Engineering & Management Systems.

Tony DiNota

Director of Capital Partnering, Credit

Tony DiNota joined Reverence Capital in 2022. Prior to Reverence, Mr. DiNota was a Managing Director of Business Development & Investor Relations at Varadero Capital since 2018. Mr. DiNota has prior experience as the Head of Business Development at Marinus Capital, Director of Capital Introductions at Citigroup in Global Markets Prime Finance, VP of Capital Introductions in Global Markets Financing & Services at Merrill Lynch, and Senior VP at HedgeOp Compliance. Mr. DiNota started his career as a civil and corporate attorney and earned a B.S. in Finance from Boston College and J.D. from New York Law School.

Sarf Siddiqui

VP of Finance, Credit

Sarf Siddiqui joined Reverence Capital in 2022. Prior to Reverence, Mr. Siddiqui was a Senior Controller at Colbeck Capital Management, where he managed all aspects of day-to-day accounting for credit funds. Mr. Siddiqui has prior experience as an Assistant Vice President at Cerberus Capital Management, where he was responsible for credit / lending, real estate, and NPL private equity portfolios. He started his career at Ernst & Young. Mr. Siddiqui received a B.B.A. in Accounting and Computer Information Systems from Baruch College, City University of New York. Mr. Siddiqui is a New York State licensed CPA.
